A lot has been going on with my art lately and that’s a good thing. But, it has left me with some unfinished pieces I need to get working on again. Two pheasant pieces I started late last year and two new art pieces I started this year. I don’t normally post “work in progress” on the site but I thought I would this time to give some of you an idea of the different themes I am playing around with. The color and composition in these are far from finished, these are mainly concept pieces to flesh out some detail and over all layout. I don’t have working titles for these yet either.

I have wanted to do a piece incorporating fireworks for a long time and thought I might as well jump in and start one. I think in the final piece I am going to make the sky a little more darker and blue and also make the fireworks a bit more subtle. Right now they just give me an idea for placement.

This is my first attempt at a panoramic format. The theme is an early morning flight of hot air balloons as a rural camper is just waking up.

Another concept I wanted to visit was an old grist mill. I had done another piece with a mill before but this time I wanted to play around with an old looking building and some waterfalls. The pheasants are blocking in for placement. A lot more work to do on them and some more foreground details.

I started this one late last year and I like the color and feel of the piece but not the composition. So, starting this one over. I think the pheasants will be too static and I want to push them back to mid ground, maybe in flight. That will allow me to fill in the foreground with a lot more detail. Probably work more on adding to the worn out barbed wire fence.
